American Sewing Guild

altFor the last several years the "Golden Girls", a neighborhood group of the Suncoast Chapter of the American Sewing Guild have been meeting in Fellowship Hall on the second Wednesday of the month from 9:00am-noon. The group shares their love and interest in sewing through hands on projects and Trunk Shows by sewing educators from some of the local sewing and quilt stores. Over the years the group has supported many community service projects which include comfort caps and turbans for the American Cancer Society, quilts and clothing for patients at Shriners' Hospital in Tampa, clothing and Christmas stockings for children and women in abuse centers, bibs, lap robes, and walker caddies for nursing home residents. The current projects are "Reach to Recovery Vests", for the American Cancer Society and pillows for Ronald McDonald House.

The Golden Girls are very happy to call Oakhurst United Methodist Church their home and thank the Church for the privilege.

On Saturday, August 1st, beginning at 9:00am, the chapter is holding another day long Sewing and Craft Day at the Church. Everyone with an interest in sewing, beading, felting and or quliting, is invited to attend the classes. Lunch is included in the $10.00 class fee. Kits for the various projects are prepared at a minimal additional cost by the teachers.

Come join us and share Sewing as an Art and a Life Skill.
