OAKHURST'S VISION STATEMENT:
Oakhurst is called to be a healthy church for Jesus Christ.
OAKHURST'S MISSION STATEMENT:
The Mission of Oakhurst United Methodist Church is to gather and form disciples of Jesus Christ and to nurture and deploy all our members in meaningful service for Jesus Christ.
OAKHURST'S PURPOSE STATEMENT:
1. To invite and warmly receive people from the community to become members of our family of faith.
2. To help all our members grow as disciples of Jesus Christ, and be transformed by the power of God's love through Worship, Christian Education, Fellowship, and Small Groups.
3. To nurture all our members, supporting them in times of need and trouble and help each other to be the children of God.
4. To help all of our members find meaningful service to Jesus Christ both inside and outside our church, identifying each person's spiritual gifts and training each member for service.
OAKHURST CORE VALUE STATEMENT:
We the congregation of Oakhurst, affirm the following core value statements as the foundation on which all of the ministries, small groups, missions, and activities that happen at Oakhurst shall be established and implemented.
1. We value the Holy Bible as the inspired word of God, given to us for instruction, direction, correction, and affirmation. It is the main source of our knowledge of God's Will and the foundation of our faith.
2. We value the importance of prayer and meditation as the primary means of communicating with God through which God reveals His vision for the individual and for this Body of Christ.
3. We value the significance of corporate worship offered in adoration and praise to God and acknowledge its part in meeting our need for a personal relationship with God.
4. We value the need to lead all Christians to identify, develop, and share their spiritual gifts in order to have a deeper, fuller relationship with God so that every member becomes a committed disciple and minister for Jesus Christ.
5. We value the need to be good stewards in our use of our time and talents, and of the resources provided to us by God.
6. We value the need to demonstrate God's love and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ through word and deed to all people.
7. We value the relationship of Oakhurst to the United Methodist Church and to all believers in Jesus Christ and to our community.
OAKHURST MEMBERSHIP COVENANT
All New Members will affirm the following:
1. I will support the church by my prayers, my presence, my gifts and my service.
2. I will protect the unity of my church by acting in love towards all other members, by following the leaders in faithfully supporting the vision statement and by refusing to gossip.
3. I will help Oakhurst grow by inviting the unchurched to attend, warmly welcoming those who visit, and by sharing my faith by words and acts of love.
OAKHURST'S WORSHIP CREED:
These are the worship values we share and affirm; We believe that Oakhurst exists as a place to come to seek, to get to know and to serve God, to be empowered and inspired. We will worship the Lord with gladness and enter His gates with thanksgiving. We will invite God the Father to fill us with love for Him. We invite Jesus to give us His Holy Spirit. We invite the Holy Spirit to visit and fill us to empower us for service, to cleanse us, and to include us in God's mission and ministry in the world. We affirm our shared unity as a body of Christ and we pledge to each do our part to promote and maintain a loving atmosphere in our worship. In our worship we emphasize abundant living, generous giving, physical health and well being. We will practice humility, forgiveness, acceptance of different expressions of worship, and spoken and silent prayer. We affirm as of greatest importance the need to reach out to and nurture youth and young adults in our worship and to lead people into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. We believe in radical transformation of the self through repentance, imitation of Christ, self sacrifice, the means of grace and the healing power of God in Christ that is in us through the Holy Spirit.
